Less time spent writing this blog, marginally fewer posts than in previous years but an increased readership and comment levels sum up the Omnibuses Blog in 2011.

North Hayling is off over fields to the east with no direct link to its eponymous station. which, as its name suggests, served the community of Stoke.

Southbound trains then arrived at the lavish North Hayling Station.

The photo shows the rear of Torpoint depot, with these fine pair of Western National Bristol Ks (?) awaiting their fate at the end of their working lives.

The line itself was mainly used during the summer months as people from the South Coast would travel down to the beach on Hayling Island.

How did they manage to get it so wrong? Especially when this was pretty much a one-off opportunity to get it so right.

The consensus from comments received on yesterday’s post seems to be that First’s new livery, part of its essential rebranding exercise, is as insipid as it is uninspired.

The 21 to Steer Park last week - but not for much longer, Many areas of Plymouth would be more than happy to get the same level of bus service that the 21 gets.

I can understand their annoyance at loosing the 10 min service but at least they are still getting a regular bus service.

but, surely, a livery should enhance the image of the company and the vehicle and suggest to the customer that quality and reliability are pre-eminent. With the massive cuts planned by Cornwall County Council I fear it will be a long time before we see another attempt to improve the Plymouth – Cornwall bus links again. Whether you think it was a foolhardy move to introduce this service, the operator has to be applauded for at least giving it a go.

Sadly I never did get round to trying this service myself – and now its too late. It was already reduced to two days a week instead of the daily service. 'It is with regret that we forced to announce the withdrawal of the X5 Plymouth – Truro service and that the last day of running will be Tuesday 31st January 2012 Though this has been a very popular route, it has never generated enough revenue to match its running costs and with up coming changes to the Concessionary fare scheme and the reduction in the amount we will be paid for accepting these passes has meant that it is no longer viable to continue this service.' It was a brave experiment by new a brand new operator but today (Tuesday 31st January) is the last day of Jacketts Coaches X5 service.
